• Election 2016 Statement

  • Dear Houston LGBT Chamber Family,

While the Chamber did not endorse in this Presidential election, we felt it important to respond and share thoughts with you based on the election results last week. The LGBT community and our allies are beyond alarmed about the incoming administration and the potential impact to our businesses, our families and our daily lives.

The election results further strengthen our resolve to be a strong leader in the advocacy and policy arena to support our members and our interests. Please see the statement from the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber (NGLCC) included to the right. As a local chamber, we have strong partners and allies. Key to our advocacy work is the continued collaboration with the NGLCC, with other LGBT chambers in Texas and throughout the country and our local chambers such as the Asian American Chamber and Indo-American Chamber to name a few. Together, with you, we are strong advocates for inclusion, collaboration and equality.

As we reflect back on the past ten months since we launched the Chamber, we recognize once again that the time is right for our work, for our city and for our members. The Chamber will work tirelessly with you to ensure that we have a “seat at the table.”

You will be hearing more about our advocacy work in the coming months through the Legislative Affairs Committee. The power in our advocacy work will be the support of our members, who can help the Chamber promote our message of inclusion of LGBT business owners at every level of government and in the private sector who serve as shining examples of the American dream.

Today…the work has only just begun. We are in it for the long haul. While we face much uncertainty about the new administration, we move forward…together.  We will not give up and we will not give in. We will be a voice and we will lead as a Chamber and community partner to support our members.

Thank YOU for your support of the Chamber.
